We would like to thank Francesca Lavè (Head of MUN) for her hard work in organizing the 3rd Polyphonic Day of International Justice alongside Jussara Pm, Dr Hector Olasolo, with The Instituto Iberoamericano de La Haya and The Hague University of Applied Sciences. Francesca represented Invictus and the students of our University at the Opening Panel. She spoke about the importance of regional and local perspectives in the implementation of international law, alongside Dr Olasolo, Rajash Rawal and Ms Ingrid De Beer.
We also want to thank all the Invictus volunteers, the panelists, and President Ekaterina Trendafilova for their participation and incredible contributions throughout the event!
In particular, we would like to recognise the following volunteers:
Mr Ajatshatru Bhattacharya who acted as rapporteur and Laur-Yann Euthirdline as assistant to Dr. Lachezav Yanev during the event. He gave a presentation on the issues discussed with the panelist regarding the implementation of the Geneva Conventions and the Rome Statute in Bulgaria. Dr. Lachezav Yanev (Bulgaria) is an Assistant Professor in international criminal law at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He has previously worked as an assistant legal officer in Trial Chamber II of the SCSL and has also interned at the ICTY and at the ICC.
Ms Fabienne Ufert acted as rapporteur and Ana Motamayor as assistant to Mykola Gnatovskyy. She then gave a detailed rapport of the issues that had arisen in the group discussions with the panelist regarding the implementation of International Humanitarian Law in Ukraine.Dr Mykola Gnatovskyy (Ukraine) is the President of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT).
Mr Joshua Christodoulou acted as rapporteur and Ella Riise MacLeod as assistant to Capitain Tian Sichen. At the final Panel, Joshua gave an account of the Means of implementation of International Humanitarian Law in China, following interesting group discussions with the panelist. Captain Tian Shichen (China) headed the Department of Crisis Management and Media Relations, the Information Office of the Chinese Ministry of National Defence (MND). He used to be a legal adviser for MND and PLA Navy and served at various operational, legal and academic positions with the PLA Army, Navy and the headquarters of MND. He is currently Vice president of Grandview Institution & Director of Collaborative Innovation Centre for International Military Operations Law Studies.
Ms Jussara Pm acted as rapporteur and Quincy Arrindell as assistant to Ms. Dalila Seoane. Jussara then gave a presentation on the issues discussed with the panelist regarding the developments of the implementation of International Humanitarian Law. Ms. Dalila Seoane (Argentina) is a qualified criminal lawyer (LL.M. in IHL and IHRL, Geneva Academy – Law Degree University of Buenos Aires). Her professional experience includes legal/factual analysis, OSINT, and investigation of international crimes (including, SGBV cases, financial crimes, and drug trafficking). Investigation of international crimes in Western African countries (Civitas Maxima – Legal Counsel). She has more than 10 years of experience with prosecutorial teams, working in different special investigation units (Federal Attorney General’s Office – Argentina).
Karina Sibilska gave a beautiful closing speech at the event. We would like to thank Karina, Vice President of HHS ILSA Chapter and member of Invictus, for this collaboration and for her words. We look forward to continuing to work with her and ILSA in the future!
Khatra Nur acted as rapporteur to Kasim Balarabe at the event. Following the round-table discussion with the panelist, she gave a presentation about the Implementation of International Humanitarian Law in the African Continent. Kasim Balarabe (Nigeria) is an Associate Professor at the O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat, India. He is a former Principal Legal Officer, Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Justice; Head, Department of Public and Comparative Law, Kampala International University; and Associate, Aluko & Oyebode, Nigeria.
Mei-li Oliveira acted as rapporteur to Dr. Katayoun Hosseinnejad. Mei-Li did an outstanding job giving a presentation on the implementation of International Humanitarian Law in IACs and NIACs. Dr. Katayoun Hosseinnejad (Iran) is the former Head of Communication and Cooperation Department, International Committee of the Red Cross, Iran; she is now a Lecturer, Allameh Tabataba’i University; Attorney at Law and Founding Partner of Hosseinnejad-Esfahanian Law Partners.
We are very proud of our Invictus Volunteer and would like to thank them all for making this event a phenomenal success!
